This course's front nine is flat, and loaded with trees. A creek meanders through the course, which comes into play on five holes. The back nine was built back in the hills. Hole #16, a 192-yard, par 3, features an elevated tee with a 180-foot drop to the green. Additional water hazards (three ponds) come into play on three of the back nine holes. In addition, numerous sand bunkers were placed throughout the course. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 2nd "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and #1 in 1997-98.

A great course near the Yellowstone River, May 06, 2004
reviewer: SKM from Billings, MT
It is the most beautiful and challenging course in Billings. It had some problems with irrigation in the past, but the club invested capital into improving the irrigation system to create more consistency throughout the course. The staff are all immensely friendly, without pretention, and are all willing to go the extra mile.

risk reward, Apr 20, 2004

The Briarwood is the kind of golf course that will reward you for well hit and well placed shots and will punish you for shots that are not well placed. The Briarwood challenges both the mental and physical sides of your golf game. You can walk the front, but must be in good physical condition to walk the back nine. There are a lot of hills on the back nine, get a cart and enjoy the round.
