This is an excellent course for all skill levels. The signature holes for this course are #4 and #14. Hole #4 is a 332-yard, par 4, which is entirely surrounded by water, while hole #14, a 330-yard, par 4, requires you to play up a steep slope to the green. Water hazards come into play on a total of three holes. The senior discount rate is only good on Tuesday and Thursday.

New Owners, Nov 08, 2006
reviewer: Robert Sutherland from Georgia
If you have not played this course since the new owners have renovated it, you will not believe the condition and top notch appearance. I have been playing this course for 10+ years and it is now one of the best in the area. White sand traps and greens that are great. A staff that maintains the course full time and owners that have invested a large amount of money and time to bring this course into the big league. The fees are very affordable and they give breaks to senior citizens and students. I have played all the courses in the area and Lane Creek is equal or better than the others.

much needed improvement, Oct 31, 2006

i have played this course all my life and sadly saw it fall apart. luckily for everyone it is under new managemant and they renovated the course. i am happy to say it is back to its former glory. the greens rival any around. the only draw back is they changed one of the par 5's to a 4. great course for the price.

New owners and new greens make this a great course, Oct 17, 2006
reviewer: Frank from Athens, GA
The course was purchased by new owners who shut it down for a rebuild during the summer of 2006. It reopened five weeks ago and is in super condition. The greens are the best I've seen in the area. Nice layout that is challenging but doesn't punish the average golfer.

Lane Creek Golf Club Renovation (Summer 2006): Spectacular, Sep 28, 2006
reviewer: Gregory Schmidt from Bishop, GA
Although I always would defend a close friend who was one of the previous owners, it was true that Lane Creek Golf Club was in subpar condition in the past few years. After its acquisition by a group of golf course professional last spring, the rebuilding of greens, the rebuilding bunkers with abundant soft white sand, and some changes in the layout over the summer, it now is one of the very best courses in the Athens Georgia area. In particular, the Champion Bermuda greens are nearly perfect (only a bit too firm) with a professional stimp rating and many challenging undulations. It is easy to 3-putt, but the balls roll true. Fairways (and roughs) are sheared daily (I live in the neighborhood) and only an occassional clump of fescue or goosegrass is encountered. Disregard the earlier postings because it basically is a new course with reasonable fees.

Got To Come Back, Sep 18, 2006

I'm very pleased with the way this course was reconditioned. I've only seen greens like these on totally private courses. I've played this course since it first opened about 14 years ago and was extremely satisfied.

New, Sep 15, 2006
reviewer: Bud Hopkins from Athens, GA
Played for first time in 5-6 years on the 11th of Sept. A new face for a good track is evident. Greens, which were terrible in the past are very good now. While still young, they will get better. Hole changes are great although the sand could be a little more forgiving, Our group was very pleased with our trip out there and let the new Club Pro know. Hat's off to the new management, the course is great...

NEW, Sep 12, 2006
reviewer: Bud Hopkins from Athens, GA
For any review from past years, go out and play the "New Lane Creek" and tell Brent Mitchell how much you were impressed as I was on 09/11/06. New greens (about six weeks old) that play great, rolled true but still a little bit bumpy which was to be expected. Course has changed for the better (much better) and there are people out there working to keep it that way, I had a great time at a course I refused to play for the last three years. It is open now and you will enjoy....Pass on your comments to Brent Mitchell, the club pro, he wants to hear from you after you play.....

not worth the drive, Aug 22, 2005
reviewer: Anonymous from Jefferson, GA
Nice layout, but; I don't think the greens can be in worse shape, lost a ball in the second cut under a thick mound of brown grass clippings, tee boxes need cutting and rolling, I did not see the first marshal (he/she is much needed!!), "cart path only" signs are ignored. It is unfortunate to see this course in such sad condition.
