| Well, I was in the military stationed at Barksdale AFB for a time, but recently became a civilian. I played this course on several occasions while in the Air Force, but at the time my seriousness for the game had left. In high school, I played everyday. But after playing this course again from a serious perspective, I wish I had kept my game up. Being that I was an Airman, green fees were only $7. Wow, for that price I would give the course 5 stars. But, I played this course again as a guest, and paid $21. Even still, this is a good course for the price, and I think it deserves 4 stars. First of all, the bunkers are phenomenal! White, fluffy sand. Reminds me of several trips I took to Mexico. Second, the greens were excellent. VERY fast! Many were undulating, which led to some very slippery putts. Which makes the course, ultimately more fun. The condition of the course was quite good. Tax dollars going to a good cause! Obviously, our servicemen deserve a golf course in excellent shape! My only qualms with this course, is it's length. Quite short. It led to a great score for me, and I was happy. But if I were to play this course 30 times, I believe it would become almost too easy. I know golfers love to post a good score, but most of us like to be challenged. There are a few challenging holes, but most are too easy. There isn't much trouble. No water, but then again, some holes come frighteningly close to the street, with many cars passing by. Even with it's problems, the course still deserves 4 stars. If my friend invites me, I will certainly play again at Barksdale. |
