This course was built on hilly terrain, so expect many uneven lies. The large greens are slightly sloped, but easy to read. Even though most of the fairways are tree lined, they do offer generous landing areas. Water hazards come into play on three holes, but there are no sand bunkers on the course.

This course offers a good experience for the terrain that it sets on. It is located on fairly hilly terrain that makes for some interesting shots. The 3rd, 6th, and 9th holes offer a challenge with water. There are only two par 5 holes on the course which the greens can be reached in 2 shots. The course isn't too difficult. A good beginner course. But it is still a very enjoyable course. Offers good scenery.

Ellis Maples used time-tested design methods on Quarry Hills golf course. Not alot of earth was moved when placing the holes, and the result is a warm, natural feel when walking this course. In fact, it was made to walk. Despite its short length, it is a strong test of golfing skill to score well here. A true Hidden Gem in North Carolina.

What makes river forest a difficult course is their greens.They can put the pin placements where it is possible to three and four putt greens even if you play it everyday.Slopping greens make every putt a challenge. They also have added a water hazard to #3 making it impossible to reach in 2.With the addition of new tee boxes and several holes with where you can knock it OB good luck for all you 10 handicappers to try and break 90 on you first couple rounds.
