Cyprian Keyes Golf Club - Championship Course

284 E Temple St
Boylston, MA 01505
Phone: (508)869-9900Fax: (508)869-0096

This facility offers two different styles of play, an eighteen hole regulation course and a nine hole par 3 course. The Championship Course was built on rolling terrain so there will be a few uneven lies. The fairways are fairly wide and very tree lined. There are sand bunkers that come into play on almost every hole throughout the design, and some wetlands that create water hazards on ten holes. The greens are large, undulating and fairly slow. "Golf Digest" selected the Championship Course 5th on its list of "Best New Affordable Public Courses" for 1998.

Waste of time, overpriced and Rude Service, Aug 08, 2010
reviewer: Golf Enthusiast. from Central Massachusetts
I am not surprised to read that others have been incurring issues at cyprian keyes in boyleston. I went up there with a friend of mine, we had a rain check on the course and decided to play again. First we were met with resistance on our rain check, saying that they had no record of our former visit. This was followed by a 30 minute delay on the tee. Once we got on the course, we waited at least 4 minutes on every tee, which on the fifth hole was followed by the spotter coming up to our cart and telling us to "keep pace and get moving". The greens were below the par and standard set for this "championship" course, as there were at least three greens with visible winterization problems still in Mid August. The pair we were partnered with, quit after nine holes because they did not want to "play a 6 hour round". We went in and complained to the pro, Scott hickey, and he was rude to us, telling us, "there is nothing i can do". Aside from all the problems i had personally that day with pace of play, attitude of staff and so on, the course itself is not that nice. It is a compilation of over sized par fours and exaggerated water hazards. The course is not classic, traditional, modern or anything in between, it is just incredibly difficult and not in a fair way, they just simply have some holes that make No sense. As one friend of mine who played competitive golf in college put it, "Cyprian Keyes the type of course that would have to be in Tip Top Condition to be fair or worthwhile" and let me tell you my friends... its NOT. And thats coming from a guy who has played some of the top courses in the United States. If youre in central mass, please visit some of the nicer, more affordable, classier courses in the area .

Doesn't meet the hype, Jun 13, 2010
reviewer: Don from Dudley, MA
Played June 7. Fair amount of winter kill on the greens. Played the shorter green tees. Lots of blind shots, too many doglegs, not a picturesque course. Greens were slow

Beautiful but rude golf rangers, Sep 16, 2007
reviewer: Golfer from Boston from Boston
We had friends over from Ireland. They wanted to get one round of golf in and we heard Cyprian was beautiful and a good course to play. Yes, those are true but we found the golf rangers to be very nasty. Our friends were surprised how rude these people were. It was not worth the hour drive.

Played this past weekend and the course was in pristine condition. Diffifcult but playable. Out of all the nicer upscale courses in Central Mass this is the best in my opinion. Only downside is a double sided driving range where you can easily hit the other people.

One of the best in New England, Mar 18, 2004
reviewer: Bill Ryan from Northbridge, MA
After playing Cyprian Keyes numerous times, I believe that it is one of the best upscale public courses in New England. The location is easy to get to, the staff treats you as if you were a member at a private club and the golf course is magnificent. It is difficult and some holes are narrow but after you play it once, you'll love it. I have always found it in superb condition and there are always numerous groundskeepers filling divots on the tees and fairways. Your review says that the greens are fairly slow but I have found the speed to be just right and is well matched to the undulating greens. If they were much faster, they would be difficult to putt. I have played most of the newer public courses in Central New England and Cyprian Keyes is my #1 choice.
