This is a difficult course because the tree-lined fairways are narrow, and the medium-sized greens are fast. There are several blind fairways in the design, and the rolling terrain can produce some awkward lies. There's virtually no water on the course and very few sand bunkers. This course plays very long for a beginner and can be an intimidating place to learn the sport. Stephen Kay redesigned the original layout in 1989. There is an additional set of men's tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.

| I try to golf here as much as possible & as a beginner I can truly say that you learn many things from this course. The nine holes definitely throw alote at you. You can play this course ten times and it'll feel different about every other time. It's true it can be frustrating but I think if a beginner is looking for a course to learn situational play; this is the one to play. |

| The course is well taken care of and the staff are courteous. A nice place to get away from downtown for a while! |

Petite NYC golf gem, Aug 10, 2006 |
| reviewer: Bill
from New York, NY |
| Based on my recent round, I would definitely recommend this golf course. The only reason I gave it just 3 stars is I feel you don't quite get a full golf experience there. The holes are generally too short to hit drivers, there are no par 5s, and its only 9 holes. What you do get is a well-maintained course that is easily accessible from midtown or upper manhattan. The holes are scenic and somewhat tight, presenting a reasonable challenge for experienced golfers while not being over-the-top for beginners. They were watering the course on a Saturday afternoon which was annoying to hit around but provided a nice "cool down" option for a hot day. The pace of play was relatively fast, leaving me time to stop by Gino's Pizzeria near the Woodlawn train station...Best slice in the Bronx! |

Good Executive Course & Practice Facility, Aug 10, 2006 |
| reviewer: Ron
from New York City |
| Having the First Tee program at Mosholu has greatly changed the facility. The 9-hole executive course was remodeled in 2006 (4 par-3s & 5 par-4s) and is in very good condition for being so new. The short range only allows irons from matted tees. However there is a large practice putting green with a sand bunker and chipping area, and a large chipping green. It is a great place to practice your short game -- something very difficult to find at a municipal golf course. |

The price is right!!!, Jul 05, 2006 |

| Played this course on the 4th of July 2006. Nice course considering the price. No reservations, first come/first served! Very narrow fairways and hardly any bunkers. Heavy trees on sides of some of the fairways eat up the balls. Pace was kept up to a nice speed and there is a ranger who rides around to make sure everybody is where they should be. Convenient location for me and will become my "regular" course. |

Temp Course Modifications Underway, Jun 27, 2005 |
| reviewer: John Lyons
from Manhattan, New York |
| The course is undergoing a major renovation as the city is putting in a water plant under the main driving range and first hole. The temp course is in pretty good shape and some of the holes are quite nice, including the 408 yard number one and the 151 yard number 9. If you can overlook the temporary club house, you'll have a great experience. |

Where's the green?, Jul 15, 2004 |
| reviewer: Matt W.
from Lansing, MI |
| I just played Mosholu for the first time (7/15/04). Very close to public transit (4 train uptown to last stop). Staff was nice. Nice sized driving range and practice putting green. Your round starts out with the hardest hole on the course which is a little intimidating. A very small creek comes into play on two holes and there are no bunkers. Besides the two par 3's (which are 190 and 230 yards long!), I think 6 out of the remaining 7 holes all have blind tee shots. There's always a little bit of a hill in front of you so you have to have faith in the scorecard diagram. There are no severe doglegs so it's not too tricky. The blind shots also make it a little hard to know when the group in front of you is out of the way. The tee boxes are really no good. They're uneven and the grass is poor. It also seems like they've done some renevations because there are two old greens in the middle of fairways that are roped off as "free drop" areas. It's going to take a few more rounds before I learn the course and can enjoy playing here. It's a little frustrating not knowing where or when to hit. I'll definitely be back, though. |

ON THE LOW, Feb 20, 2004 |
| reviewer: Doctor Solid

| I am a novice player (or hacker). I think this is a great place to learn. I don't know anywhere else in the city where you can walk up on a nice weekend and not wait long to play. The POOR DRAINAGE on Hole 1 in the fairway 20 yds. from the green makes this blind approach shot unfair. That and more yardage markers are my only complaints. The greens are well kept for a municiple course. The fairways are maintained well. The long holes, narrow fairways, and blind approach shots make this course challenging even though there are no bunkers and two water hazards. Their practice facilities which include a practice range, a sand bunker, at least two chipping areas, and a putting green is ideal for the novice golfer to work on their game. |
