Could be a great muni, but it's not, Sep 08, 2007

| Good munis are possible, and Brookline GC @ Putterham could be a great one, with its beautiful stone clubhouse and terrific layout. But years of neglect have left this course in ruins, with beat up tee boxes, and fairways that alternate between scorched and swampy (apparently The Country Club water usage next door runs off to Putterham). What happened to the nearly $1MM that Putterham supposedly got to serve as the parking lot for the 1999 Ryder Cup? The on course staff is less than helpful.
Wife: Where'd you play today?
Me: Putterham, and it was terrible.
Wife: Yeah, that sounds like a sucky place.
If you're looking for a game to play, are staying in Boston, and can't get on one of the lovely private courses, play at Fresh Pond. |

A little soft, Apr 10, 2006

| For a muni it's in pretty good shape, especially the greens. Holes 7,8,11, 15 are testy - elevated or sloping greens. Trees come into play as do creeks. Nice staff, but the starter could have used a day or two at a charm school. Course needs helpful (more ballsy) rangers - play is a bit too slow. |

Worst Course I have ever played, Jun 28, 2005

| Between the shirtless golfers teeing off on the first hole, and a course that seems to be maintained by a chimp, this course is not worth a golfers time or money. After paying for 18 holes, I found out that it would've taken 8 hours to play all 18. Instead I cut my loses and played 9 in 4 hours. There were "Swamp" traps on the fairways and even found someone trying to hit the green of the previous hole from my tee box while I was teeing off. The people were rude, and the golfers were worse.
DO NOT go to this course. |
