Swamp Fox, Jul 26, 2008
reviewer: clubman45 from Boston, ma
Not having played this course in almost 2 years, I was hoping it had improved. That wasn't the case. It's in poor shape. This was the day after a heavy rain - they should've closed the course - they didn't. Several fairways had pools of standing water - most tee shots plugged. In many instances there was a sewer type smell to the water. Play was slow as usual and the greens were even slower - It's a shame this is a great layout with poor management and maintenance. Don't bother - you could go to George Wright or Franklin Park and actually play golf not wade in a swamp.

Could be a great muni, but it's not, Sep 08, 2007
reviewer: myrrhman from Lexington, MA
Good munis are possible, and Brookline GC @ Putterham could be a great one, with its beautiful stone clubhouse and terrific layout. But years of neglect have left this course in ruins, with beat up tee boxes, and fairways that alternate between scorched and swampy (apparently The Country Club water usage next door runs off to Putterham). What happened to the nearly $1MM that Putterham supposedly got to serve as the parking lot for the 1999 Ryder Cup? The on course staff is less than helpful. Wife: Where'd you play today? Me: Putterham, and it was terrible. Wife: Yeah, that sounds like a sucky place. If you're looking for a game to play, are staying in Boston, and can't get on one of the lovely private courses, play at Fresh Pond.

A little soft, Apr 10, 2006

For a muni it's in pretty good shape, especially the greens. Holes 7,8,11, 15 are testy - elevated or sloping greens. Trees come into play as do creeks. Nice staff, but the starter could have used a day or two at a charm school. Course needs helpful (more ballsy) rangers - play is a bit too slow.

Worst Course I have ever played, Jun 28, 2005
reviewer: Anonymous from Melrose, MA USA
Between the shirtless golfers teeing off on the first hole, and a course that seems to be maintained by a chimp, this course is not worth a golfers time or money. After paying for 18 holes, I found out that it would've taken 8 hours to play all 18. Instead I cut my loses and played 9 in 4 hours. There were "Swamp" traps on the fairways and even found someone trying to hit the green of the previous hole from my tee box while I was teeing off. The people were rude, and the golfers were worse. DO NOT go to this course.

great course, but............, Oct 19, 2004
reviewer: David O'Brien from brookline ma
if the people that work there could become civilized and courteous the expeience would be that much better. This does not apply to thase in the grille, just the pro shop and the rangers!

Play this course during a drought, Oct 06, 2004
reviewer: Richard Sherry from Boston Mass.
The town of Brookline has raised their fee's on this golf course that sit's above a peak bog.The course is usally wet and bumpy fairways. The Greens are very small but in decent shape. Do your self a favor and play the City of Boston courses you will get more bang for your dollar

Brookline Gem, Jun 27, 2004

This course is a great test and requires the ability to hit shots from both left to right and right to left. Overall it's not a long course but position is paramount, as is avoiding the streams that come into play on quite a few holes. The elavated greens on a few holes mean that a poor approach will either find the ball back on the fairway or the rough on either side of the green. My favourite holes are 9, 14 and 15 mainly because a good drive will be rewarded and a bad one will have you working to save par.
