This flat course does not have any water hazards. Some fairways are dogleg configurations, while others are somewhat tree lined. According to locals, the large and undulating greens are the finest in the city. The signature hole is #15, a 467-yard, par 4, featuring a well-bunkered fairway and requiring a downhill approach shot to a sloping green.

Best Golf Conditions Ever, Oct 06, 2010
reviewer: Dr T from New York
Fantastic !!! Best conditions I've seen at any of the muni golf courses in the past Ten years. Tee boxes were flat and had grass. Fairways were evenly cut. Greens rolled fast and true with no bald spots or mold. Only draw back was slow play. Took 5 hours to play 15 holes. Need more rangers. Course was in better condition than Old Westbury Country club.

Marine Park - A Fine Muni in NYC, Apr 22, 2010
reviewer: Lincoln Hallowell from Brooklyn, NY, USA
Marine Park GC is now in it's second year under new management, and the vast improvement in the pro shop and the staff will be immediately apparent to anyone that has played there in the past. As it is the closest course to home I play here very often. The course itself is still challenging, and while it took a major beating during this past winter's storms, they are working very hard to get the course into shape. The greens have always been challenging, and FAST, and the fairways are starting to catch up with quality of the greens. The bunkers could use some work, and the rough could be a little more penal, but Marine Park's number one defense is the wind. Depending on the direction, it can make the first three holes either challenging,or impossible to get through unscathed. The course sits alongside Gerritsen Creek, and offers some pretty spectacular views of Jamaica Bay, Breezy Point, and the Lower New York Bay, especially in the late afternoon. If you show up as a single, you will be paired with someone, or if it's not busy, they'll just send you out. If you catch the group in front of you, generally, you'll be welcomed to join them. I've often started out as a single, caught up with another single, been joined by another who caught us, and ended the day as threesome or foursome. I've never had a bad experience playing this way yet. A couple of minor improvements to the course, (adding fescue between holes, lengthening a couple of holes) and this could easily move into the elite company of the New York State Park courses on Long Island. A minor complaint: The par 3's are all approximately the same length, and the 2 on the front nine play into the same direction. Would love to see a little more variety on the par 3's. Otherwise, the par 4's and 5's offer a good variety of shots, and challenges, especially when the wind's a' blowin'! It can be pricey if you're not a NYC resident, but if you are, it's well worth the trip from the rest of the boroughs to southern Brooklyn.

THE COURSE PEOPLE LOVE TO ABUSE, Feb 21, 2008
reviewer: EDWARD DURHAM from GERRITSEN BEACH BROOKLYN
MARINE PARK GOLF COURSE SHOULD BE A 5 STAR GOLF COURSE.IT HAS DISTANCE,CHALLANGE.EXCELLENT GREENS (WHEN PROPERLY CARED FOR)AND THE SAME WITH THE FAIRWAYS.GRANTED THERE ARE NO CART PATHS , BUT A TRUE GOLFER WOULD NOT DRIVE A CART IN A WET FAIRWAY. NOR WOULD THEY DRIVE UP TO A GREEN HANDICAPPED OR NOT.NOR DRIVE A CART INTO A WOODED AREA TO LOOK FOR A BALL AND PUNCTURE A HOLE IN THE ROOF OF THE CART.SOME OF THE THINGS I SAW THERE ARE SO DUMB I CAN'T BELIEVE I WITNESSED THEM.IF I HAD MY WAY I WOULD MAKE THAT COURSE A WALKING COURSE UNTIL THEY GET CART PATHS INSTALLED AND SOME SORT OF STANDARD FOR THE HADICAPPED CARTS I FEEL CONFIDENT THE NEW MANAGEMENT (AMERICAN GOLF) WILL PUT THE COURSE ON THE RIGHT TRACK. THEY SEEM TO BE A NO NONSENSE GROUP. I WAS JUST DISCHARGED FROM THE SERVICE (NAVY)AND I WENT OVER THERE WATCHING IT BEING BUILT.I CAN REMEMBER THINKING WOW THIS IS AWESOME.THAT WAS 1963 NOW 2008 THIS CAN BE AWESOME.I HOPE THIS IS THE YEAR WE GET IT RIGHT GOOD LUCK TO JEFF AND MIKE (THEY ARE THE NEW MANAGERS).AND THE PLAYERS WHO DRIVE THE MOTOR CARTS STAY OUT OF THE FAIRWAYS WHEN THEY ARE WET.TRUST ME YOU'LL HAVE A BETTER ROUND OF GOLF P S I KNOW THE INSIDENTS I SPOKE OF ARE TRUE BECAUSE I WORKED THERE.

Great course - needs better management, Jun 23, 2007
reviewer: Anonymous from Brooklyn, NY
This course is a great course to walk-there aren't that many hills but be assured that some of the greens are very challenging. There is a marked difference in the management of the course this year and it's not for the better. I have found the staff in the Pro Shop (often very young girls)can be very rude and uninterested. A "manager" there didn't know that you can have a GHIN handicap without having purchased one through Marine Park Golf Course. Additionally, the staff out on the course itself is for want. On one weekday, there were eight people playing together on the back nine. And on another weekday, we ran into a backlog on the turn very late in the morning (10:30AM). It appears that the staff is allowing people to play the back nine as late as 10:30AM!!! All in all a great course, but with potential for some very unpleasant experiences if the management doesn't get their game together.

I would rather play there than anywhere else, Jun 08, 2004
reviewer: Lester Futernick from Brooklyn, New York
I have been playing at Marine Park for over twenty years. Though I am not a long hitter which the course requires I have learned how to play different angles as well as how to compensate for not being a long player. Because Marine Park does not require the call in system to make reservations regulars play there which ads to the comrodory. The 12th hole is as beautiful hope as you will see and the Par 4 15th plays like a par 5 making it very difficult. Nevertheless John and the guys try their best to make every round a pleasant one - Lester Futernick
