This relatively flat course is very scenic, yet difficult to score well on. The course is surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest and cornered by the 6,000 feet high, Blue Ridge Mountains. Water hazards come into play on several holes, including #5, a 520-yard, par 5, with a stream running down the right side of the fairway, which then cuts in front of the kidney-shaped green. The greens are fast and undulating, and the fairways are narrow.

Great Public Course, Jul 01, 2004
reviewer: Anonymous from North Carolina
Probably the nicest public course in the North Carolina mountains. Beautifully maintained fairway grass. Scenic. Mostly flat, in the S. Toe River valley, with the Black Mountain range and Mt. Mitchell in the background. Some private residential subdivisions around the course do not intrude unattractively. Not a terribly difficult course if you hit it straight. If you don't, you'll be in for a tough day. Holes 12, 13 and 14, a par 5 five followed by two long, tough par 4's, the last one crossed by the S. Toe River, are a real challenge. Greens moderate speed. Carts required during busy weekend periods and carts must be kept on cart paths at all times. Pull carts (trolleys) not permitted. Play can be fairly slow when course is crowded on the weekends. Low key, friendly owners and staff. Green fees top out in the high $70 range (2003-2004).
