This well-kept course is relatively easy to play. The fairways are tree lined and narrow, and the greens are small and generally slow. Water hazards (ponds and a creek) come into play on at least seven holes. This course was built on predominantly flat terrain and is easy to walk. Some of the fairways were renovated in 1997, but this did not change the yardage.

Nice little course, Nov 16, 2008

This course has very nice greens and interesting holes. It is short and flat but still has a couple of monster holes. The course is easy to walk. 16, 17, and 18 make for a great finish.

"A NICE PLACE TO PLAY."
My experience at "THE ISLAND" has been wonderful. The course plays fair. By that I mean the greens are in good shape and they recover well from all the rounds that are played there. The fairways drain well after any rain. You can play all the irons in your bag. It has a couple of tricky holes. The staff is nice and inviting. I will be back for more.

This course is challenging because your lie had better be in the fairway or you'll most likely be looking for it in some form of casual water or very thick rough. The fairways were either overly-tight, negelected, outright wet, or all three. The greens are a muddy, slow-medium to slow speed with only a fair amount of undulation. The par 3 greens are almost all too large and too flat to be much fun. I've played WPGC twice and didn't really enjoy the experience because of all the standing water in the rough and on the fairways. I'm rating the course at 2 stars only because they have reliable and frequent refreshment cart service.

Played the course in Aug. 2003. Nice course and club house. But the course is too short. Strong players will over power the course. Most par 4's are driver/3 wood and then wedge in. Par four 4th hole is a driveable par four. A bogey on that hole should leave a bad taste in one's mouth. The next hole, a short par three, is not too exciting despite a sloped green. The pro shop is well stocked and the pro is very friendly. Nice course to play but members may get bored after a year or two.
