This very hilly course has narrow fairways, and small greens that are fast. Water hazards come into play on nine holes. This club hosted the 1970 and 1991 U.S. Opens. "Golf Digest" rated this 50th best out of "America's 100 Greatest Courses" for 1995-96, and 64th best for 1997-98. It was also rated as the "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and the 2nd best for 1997-98. Other awards include "GOLF Magazine's" ranking of 78th among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1995, 81st for 1997 and 96th for 1999. "GOLFWEEK" selected it 18th in the category of "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1997, 30th for 1998 and 34th for 1999. Caddies are required for non-members.
