This course, built on rolling terrain, was designed to mimic Scottish links courses. There aren't many trees to contend with, but the wetlands and lakes will prove difficult for most golfers. The well-bunkered greens are somewhat sloped and lightning fast. There are out-of-bounds stakes lining some holes, but the course is mainly wide open and forgiving. The signature hole is #18, a 413-yard, par 4, requiring a long approach shot over water to the green. The men's tee also has a ladies' course rating of 73.4 and slope of 121.

Good for the price, Mar 05, 2005

The Fairways is a good course for the price. It has some challenging holes. Sometimes in mid summer, the course gets a little dried out. Also, due to a lack of a marshall, things can get really backed up on the weekends. Many of the holes require pride-checks for the average golfer. Hazards that look easy to clear tend to fool a lot of people.

Pines Municipal Golf Course, The
"Tough for it's size"
I'm origianally from Toccoa and have played this golf course many many times. While only a 9 hole course, it is worth the money to play it. It is far less expensive than most golf corses and offers real challenges for even experienced golfers. The terrain is extremely hilly and almost every hole has an extreme change in elavation. The green's are extremely small and very very fast. During the summer the fairways and greens are fairly well manicured although winter play tends to be a little harder on some holes due to a harder fairways from less moisture. Fairways are extemely tight with hundreds of opportunities to lose balls in pine forests and a courseside lake on the last two holes. Overall, not an allstar course but for a quick, challenging, and inexpensive round well worth the time.

"A South Florida gem"
This a great private golf course, with new TifSport fairways, TifEagle greens and new bunkering, all put in during the summer of 2002. Pete Dye's course is better than ever. The new gold (back) tees now play 6,616 yards with a 72.0/131 course and slope rating. This par 71 course is made up of narrow fairways, many tree-lined. Four par 4s exceed 400 yards with number 6 playing 442 yards and number 13 reaching 437 yards; tough holes by every standard. If you can find a member or locate a friend of a member, by all means make it a point to play this great South Florida golf course.

Lost Key Golf Club
"Bring Balls"
Lost Key is a great layout with the best greens in the Gulfshores/Pensacola area. Although the greens are extremely fast they are very puttable if you are on the right side of the hole. The fairways are fairly tight with lateral hazzards down both sides of almost everyone. They should change the course name to Lost Balls. Great course for the money if you hit it fairly straight.
