This course has five blind water hazards in the design and two signature holes. The first is hole #4, a 179-yard, par 3, which requires a tee shot over a creek to the green. The second is #8, a 128-yard, par 3, which calls for a tee shot from the bottom of a mountain up to the green. The club personnel say if you don't reach the green in one shot the chances are you will get a bogie. This club hosts the annual Sioux Valley Amateur Tournament.

What a beautiful golf couse. The course is only nine holes, but you could play it all day and not get bored with it. I would rate Cherokee as one of the best nine hole courses in the entire state!

Best 9 holes in Iowa, Mar 17, 2004

This course is the best 9 hole course in Iowa, hands down. It is the site of the Sioux Valley Amateur match play tourney, which draws some of the best golfers in Iowa and surrounding States. It is very hilly, with narrow fairways. A creek comes into play on 3 holes; the signature hole is No. 5 which brings the creek into play twice. Built in 1921.

Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course
"This course helped my game!"
With it's many doglegs and elevation changes, this course will quickly teach the beginners how to setup their approaches, while giving the lower handicap players a reasonably challenging round. 5 of the first nine pins cannot be seen from the tees. If you spray your tee shots, you will surely be struggling to make par. The par threes are deceiving with two short downhills, and two 150-ish up hills. These have been my achilles heel. There are not to many water hazzards, but they are well/poorly place depending on your tendancies. They can easily swallow your ball if your not carefull. The traps are typically limited to wrapping the greens, but watch out for the 5th hole, with its deceiving horizontal sand at 230 yards out. The grounds are well kept with mid speed greens that exactly match the practice green. Prepare for an even mix of wide and narrow fairways, and many misleading doglegs, both slight and sharp. This course has made me a better golfer, and I can't say that about many. Enjoy!

Triggs is a good course, a tough layout from the back tees. Donald Ross designed Muni gets a lot of play and is a little rough around the edges, but a great test of golf. Played there for years before I relocated South.

"Beautiful & Relaxing"
This golf course is one of the most beautiful and relaxing courses I have ever played on. The natural beauty of the area is emphasized. It is a challenging course that is very well manicured for such a small area of the province. I'd recommend AVCC to anyone.
