This course is located in the middle of the Lincoln National Forest at 8,000 feet in elevation. The greens are medium in size and speed, and vary in undulation. The fairways are extremely narrow due to the tree-lines and defined cuts of rough that border them. There are some ravines and gullies that come into play throughout the course. The locals claim that this was the original home of the famous "Smoky the Bear" who recently turned fifty years old.

I have enjoyed this course for over 10 years. It seems to be a well-kept secret, however. The owner of the course and his wife are the finest folks you will ever meet. Although the course is short, it is demanding. You must place your shots very well in order to shoot a good round. Stop by and say hello to the nice folks that own and run the course.

Philipsburg Country Club
"Great little secret in Central PA"
This is a very hilly course that is not too long. The greens are small and will yield many 3 putts if you are in the wrong spot. There are a lot of risk reward holes to make birdies or double bogeys. With small fast greens and the hilly terain, anything around par is a great score the average player with a 14 handicap should expect to play around 83 golf. Well maintaned golf course, good food and service in the dinning room. The pro shop staff is very professional and accomidating. The best thing is the cheap cart(highly reccomend to take one) and green fees less then $40 a player. This is my second favorite thing to do on a Penn State football weekend, of course the Nittany Lions are the first thing.
