This course was built on flat terrain and has small greens. A creek comes into play on four holes. Even though the fairways are tree lined, most of them are wide open. The most difficult hole is #2, a 200-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot to a slightly elevated and heavily-sloped green. This private club recently built new tee boxes for the ladies. Green fees for playing this course on Friday are the same as Saturday and Sunday.

| The Colby Country Club is a fairly open course with some really good holes. Hole #6 is my favorite hole, a good tee shot can put you on the green if you can get off the tee box. But there is some risk involved in going for the green, a row of trees to hit over in a creek bed below the tee box, out-of-bounds stakes the whole way up to the green and behind it, a grass trap in front of the green, and a row of trees that covers up most of the left side of the rough. Both par 3's can be difficult, but that has a lot to do with some really challenging greens. It is pretty hard to get the ball to stop on these saucer like greens. If you don't hit to the middle of the green on a lot of these holes you may find yourself off the short stuff. The more I play this course the shorter I hit my approaches. I think it is almost easier to hit in front of or the front edge of the green and let the ball roll. The greens on this course are pretty tricky if you don't have much experience with them. |
