This extremely hilly course, with its "lightening-fast" greens, plays longer than the yardage indicates. In addition, water hazards come into play on a few holes. The signature hole is #4, a 185-yard, par 3, requiring a straightaway tee shot to a green surrounded by sand bunkers. Carts are mandatory on weekends until 4 PM.

| If it weren't for the greens, this would be a 4 or 4.5. Excellent clubhouse and locker rooms, course is well maintained. Hilly course that is longer than most, but not too long. No short par 4s here, save for two, one a blind dogleg left, the other a blind downhiller, both around 360 from the white tees. Most fairways bordered by very large, very old and very well established trees, but fairways not so narrow as to be unfair for average players, but you pay a price for missing the short grass. Water on several holes including a couple of tee shot carries. Greens relatively small, accuracy is important. 12 greens were modified in 2003 for better drainage. Modification basically involved digging deep grooves, about 1/2 inch wide, into the green and then filling them with a special silica sand. These troughs act like indented speed bumps and are impossible to putt well. While I am sure this was done with best intentions, it has essentially made 12 greens virtually unplayable. Hopefully grass will eventually grow over them or they will realize the mistake and fix the greens. |
