Tough course, Jul 10, 2005

There are no greens visable from any of the tee boxes except on the par threes. The course is heavily wooded. There are many blind shots and if you are not familiar with the course your scores will soar. This is a course for shot makers. I get disgusted with it, but the staff is friendly and despite the fact that the course is difficult I keep going back.

This is a good public course for the price (cheap for the area). Tee times are readily available during the week and after noon on the weekends. The course is challanging for the beginner and intermediate golfer. Narrow, tree (thicket) lined fairways. You WILL lose a couple of balls. Plenty of elevation changes.

This course is fairly tight with large greens that are exquisite. They roll very well and are extremely undulating....making for putting challenges. Even though the length is about 6200 yds from the back tees, it plays a lot longer than that due to the hills, large greens, and abundant sand.

River Oaks Golf Course
"Great little par 3 course"
This is a fantastic par 3 course for the money. The top nine is all par 3 with a great chance to work on the irons and putts. Water is present but not a threat for a straight drive. The bottom starts with an awesome par 4 that tees off from the hill behind the clubhouse. Reachable with a driver and accuracy. More water on the bottom nine that could cause some lost balls if you are not on your game. Greens are more than fair. Not to fast but depending on weather can be faster than they look. No sand around the holes and hopefully that will change in the future. I use this course frequently for training as well as a quick round of golf without the hassel of a larger course. The driving range is very well kept and the price for a bucket is the cheapest in town that I know of. The practice green is fantastic and allows for many different approaches to a hole to be practiced. The pro shop stocks many items including a complete PING fitting area. Refeshments, including soft drinks, food, and beer are avaialable at a cost designed to leave you money to come back and play another day. This course is a proud sponser of youth golf as well as senior golf. Very family oriented.

Winter Springs Golf Club
"Winter Springs Wetlands"
This course is challenging because your lie had better be in the fairway or you'll most likely be looking for it in some form of casual water or very thick rough. The fairways were either overly-tight, negelected, outright wet, or all three. The greens are a muddy, slow-medium to slow speed with only a fair amount of undulation. The par 3 greens are almost all too large and too flat to be much fun. I've played WPGC twice and didn't really enjoy the experience because of all the standing water in the rough and on the fairways. I'm rating the course at 2 stars only because they have reliable and frequent refreshment cart service.
