This course is located in the Georgia International Horse Park, which played host to the equestrian and mountain-bike events during the 1996 Summer Olympics. The course intertwines with the natural terrain of the cross-country course, and features granite outcroppings, wetlands, steep inclines and woodlands. The fairways are tree lined, and the greens are fast and slightly undulating. Water hazards come into play on six holes. The signature hole is #3, a 196-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot past the sand bunkers lining both sides of the fairway before reaching the green. "Golf Digest" rated it as the 15th "Best in State" course for 1997-98. The senior rate is good for weekdays only.

Very Scenic Course - 4 stars. Par 5's are very short (all reachable in two) - 1 star - not challenging at all. Greens are very contoured & challenging - 4 stars. Course is in good shape - 3 stars. Manager in the pro shop is terrible - 0 stars (rude, mismanaged tee times, mispriced our rates, not very knowledgeable of the course, etc). Overall 2.5 stars. Worth playing once. There are definitely better courses in the Atlanta area. Was not impressed.

Cherokee Run - don't "run" from it; "WALK" away, Oct 11, 2004 |

I travel to Atlanta frequently. This course was fun and easy to play from the men's tees - perhaps playing from the "tips / championship" tees would make it more challenging (but I'm an 18 handicapper). The par 5's are really short. They should reduce the par of this course from 72 to 69 or 70. The only thing challenging was the greens. Club house / pro-staff was a nuisance. Course has a few scenic holes. Course was in descent shape. If you're playing on the East Side of Atlanta, would DEFINITELY recommend Georgia National (about 20 minutes South) over this course. Cherokee Run is not a bad course to play; but not that good either. I wouldn't play it again though.

I must say this course is a challenge. Great layout and always in good condition. Most of the holes are laid out with marsh, rocks, and creeks you must drive over to get on the fairway. Food there is also good. Also try Woodlands right up the road on 138 toward Athens.

There aren't many golf courses around here that are really challenging, but this one offers many challenging shots and putts. The layout is beautiful. There are a lot of fantastic holes to play on this course!
