This course is located adjacent to Sunlakes State Park. The terrain is fairly hilly, so expect uneven lies. There are absolutely no trees that can affect your shots. However, sand bunkers occasionally come into play, and locals claim the main problem is the thick cut of rough bordering all the fairways. The greens are undulating and fast. The signature hole is #1, a 511-yard, par 5, requiring uphill shots all the way to the green. The club personnel warns that golfers should keep an eye out for the rattlesnakes that occasionally appear on the course.

I've been a golfer for alomost 20 years now (in North East Ohio) and it always delights me to find a course like Deer Lake. This course changed management about 3 years ago and there have been MAJOR improvements. The fairways have a much more professional feel to them and the greens are now firm and entertaining. This course has come a long, long way in the last couple of years and the new management should be congradulated. Not only that but greens fees are the lowest that I've found in the area. Occoneechee Golf Club
"Golf at a value"
Occ. golf course is a nice course if you are looking for value in a round of golf. The course is always in good condition, the staff is pleasant and the course is enjoyable, yet not easy, if you play it from the blue tees. The course is adequately and accurately marked with yardage to the greens. The front and back nine are very different and thus give some variety to the round. It is no Pinehurst, but those that play there love their golf and know proper golf etiquette. It is a real value for the dollar.
