Where do they put the cows?, May 30, 2004

I played Bent Tree on Saturday for the first time in 3 years. First the positives: Great layout Green in very good shape Nice people I have one very big negative. From tee to green the course was in lousy shape! Weeds have been allowed to take over the the bent grass fairways. Why this course put down bent grass fairways in the first place is beyond me. At times it was difficult to determine if I was in the rough on on the fairway. I know I shouldn't complain about the rough, its my own fault for going there in the first place, but the rough was a mixture of tall thick weeds and hard pan dirt. Yuck! My advice is stay away from this course! Maybe the fairways will improve, but I doubt it. I suspect they are having financial problems due to their remote location and are having trouble coming up with the money to put into the course. For $48 on weekends there are much better courses in the area to play.

Course is in decent shape, but the layout is one of the funnest to play in the Metro Area! Punishes bad shots and has plenty of scoring opportunities. Staff is very friendly and pace of play is good! Highly recommended!

Bent Creek Country Club
"Exquisite Conditioning"
I was a member at Bent Creek for ten years until moving to South Carolina. Day in and day out, compared with top caliber courses, this is probably the best conditioned course in the Mid-Atlantic area. Tees, fairways, and greens are bent grass, as are the practice tees and even one of the two practice ranges. The course is more difficult than its slope and course rating indicate, with very difficult holes at the start, especially from the back tees. It is a great course for average players from the regular men's tees, and a fantastic test for better players from the back. An under-par score from the back tees is exceptional.

Deer Lake Golf Course
"The New Management has made Deer Lake GREAT"
I've been a golfer for alomost 20 years now (in North East Ohio) and it always delights me to find a course like Deer Lake. This course changed management about 3 years ago and there have been MAJOR improvements. The fairways have a much more professional feel to them and the greens are now firm and entertaining. This course has come a long, long way in the last couple of years and the new management should be congradulated. Not only that but greens fees are the lowest that I've found in the area. When you go in ask Carlo, the owner, for some of his special chili.

Fort Cherry Golf Club
"Better than Quicksilver...and cheaper too!!!"
When golf is mentioned around the area of McDonald/Midway/Pittsburgh and it's surrounding areas, most people think of Quicksilver. I urge everyone to play Fort Cherry Golf Club. The staff there treats you like real true people, and are there to serve you. Their gentle courtesey helped me to feel comfortable, even before i stepped forth on the golf course. The course itself is always in beautiful shape. IPrices are right; play is magnificant. I recommend Fort Cherry to all vistors and friends that I know are comming to the area.

Midlakes Club
"Outstanding lake views"
Midlakes was a joy to play, the expansive views of Skaneateles Lake were unlike any I have seen in this area of New York. Fairways were lush, lots of tee choices, but a bit short. Still was challenging though for us average golfers. 5 stars for the scenery, 3-4 for the rest.
