This course is rated as one of the top 100 golf courses in the United States. The club hosts the PGA Tour's Greater Hartford Open. This beautiful course has undulating terrain and ponds come into play on several occasions. There are numerous bunkers scattered throughout its stadium-designed layout. The course was first redesigned by Orrin Smith in 1951, then again by Pete Dye in 1984, and Bobby Weed added eleven new holes and did a third redesign in 1991. "Golf Digest" rated it as the 10th "Best in State" course for 1997-98.

This really is a pro course. I am 13 years old. On some thursdays I go in 8 in the morning for kids golf for $5. There is only three of those days. It is like $150 for anyone else and you have to be a member. It is extremely challenging but still try to go.

Oakmont Country Club
"Tough but Fair"
Oakmont is a picturesque layout in the foothills of Glendale with lovely mountain views. The course is an old-style country club layout which rewards well planned out shotmaking. The greens are usually very fast and reward players for being below the hole. The Pac-10 Conference Championship was held at Oakmont in 2003 and only two players broke par (288) in a field of 50. The players found the par 3's particularly challenging. The greens are very well protected with sand bunkers and the fairways are heavily tree-lined. Best time to play Oakmont is in the spring and fall. I find the twelfth hole to be the most challenging. It is a 420 yard par four, uphill and terraced. The green is long and narrow, two-tiered and protected by a large bunker on the right and a drop-off hill and trees on the left.

"Good Starter Course"
For an inexpensive, well maintained course to play while you are learning the basics of golf, this course is the one to play on. No par 5's. The course has good water, and easy par 3's that are helpful when you feel the pressure of the group behind you when your beginning. For the price, the location in Fountain Valley's Mile Square Park is beautiful, and I've never felt that a person starting off in the sport would feel embarrassed to make a mistake at this course.

the course is extremely challenging and is fun at the same time. You are challenging the course and the course is challenging you. Its a fun day for those that excell at the game and for those that aren't even close to that.
