This well-conditioned course has water hazards coming into play on several holes. Even though the fairways are tree lined, they are wide open. The greens are large and fast. Since the terrain is so hilly, it can be quite a strenuous walk. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the #1 "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996. In addition, "Golf Digest" rated it 11th best under the category of "America's Top 75 Affordable Courses" in their 1996 list of "America's Best Golf Courses Everyone Can Play," and ranked it 18th among the "Top 75 Public Courses" for 1990. The same publication rated it as the 18th "Best in State" course for 1997-98. During weekdays, the first two hours of play are reserved for residents. The first three weekends of the season are first come, first serve for tee times, then the club uses the lottery system for setting times. Junior discounts and lessons aer available as well as Senior discounts available for residents. Richter Park is a facility that not only offers golf, but hiking trails, tennis and basketball. It also has an art center, which features outdoor musicals during the summer months.

Nice track , but very poorly managed, Aug 27, 2010
reviewer: James from CT
This is not a bad course, but one of the best public courses in the country as stated above? This is not even in the top five public courses in CT. Also please update your rates... $85.00 during the week, and $95.00 on the wekend for non-residents in ridiculous. Worse yet are the people who run the course. Everyone from the management down to the kids working the counter have terrible attitudes. They are not accomidating at all, and treat you as though you should thank them for being able to play here. Overall a terrible golf experience, not worthy of the time or money. My suggestion is to stay away. Go to Oxford Greens, Wintonbury Hills or Fox Hopyard instead for a true high end daily public course in CT

Breath taking views and a challenging course. It is a real treat to play at this course. Probably one of the best public courses in the country. Trust me because I've been to them all. LOL. Enjoy this place it's a real gem.

Beautiful Richter - A Great Test of Golf, Jul 23, 2004
reviewer: Peter Herger from CT
Having walked the nature grounds around Richter as a boy and having seen some of this golf course growing up, I was excited when I first took up golf and came back to play the course. Richter is spectacular, with numerous "postcard" views and natural charm, but it also represents a stern test of golf, challenging the player to play to the proper areas of fairways and greens while creating excitement with several forced carries over water, numerous holes where water comes into play, and several blind tee shots. Ultimately, it is a fabulous, gorgeous, and demanding set-up that represents the best of public golf.

Beautiful course !, Apr 19, 2004
reviewer: Eric from Norwalk, CT
I played this course for the fist time this past saturday (4/16) and loved it. I called at 9:30 am and reserved a tee time for 1:05!! This course has beatiful elevated tee boxes & unlike other hilly courses in the area it seems like you play 75% down hill. I found it very scenic and can't wait to get back up there.

Nice course but difficult to get on........, Feb 09, 2004
reviewer: Dean Buffoni from Danbury,CT
This is a great course, provided you can get on it. Always packed, best course in the area by far....I played here once and I am a resident, that shows you how hard it is to get a tee time here, used to be they only wanted non-residents because they pay more to play, (residents get a great discounted rate)...bad management idea there, of course residents complained and alot has changed....if you get the chance to play here by all means do it...you wont regret it...
