While the course at Wakonda is certainly great, Chuck Taylor is a longtime member of Wakonda Club. His review is biased and therefore not valid. Reviews should be from guests only.

Wakonda Club Renovation is Fantastic, Apr 09, 2004

If you haven't played Wakonda Club since a major renovation completed by Roger Rulewich, you need to put it on your "must play" list. This old gem, site of the 1963 US Amateur, has been lengthened with all new teeing areas, new sand bunkers on every hole, and several other major renovations that have really improved the course. The par 5s have been transformed from "ho hum" holes into classic tests of shotmaking that are some of the best par 5s you will find anywhere. Several new greens have been installed, and they have never been faster. The course plays fast and difficult, recently hosting the Iowa Amateur and future home of the Trans Mississippi and another Iowa Am. This course now truly is the finest test of golf in Iowa.

"The best in Northern California"
Simply the best in worst greens, worst drainage and highest price! Can't be beat! Course maintenance? What the hell is that? It's not need here, cause crabgrass takes care of itself both on and off the greens.

Shadow Hawk Golf Club
"Fall Visit"
Shadow Hawk is a beautiful venue. The course is hard to rate in the middle of winter when the trees are not in bloom and leafy. The fairways are open and more than fair. The greens are as challenging as they come. They are filled with undulations that make straight putts rare. The greens roll fair and pretty fast. The clubhouse is very classy and comfortable (in winter, nicer than the course itself). I would hope to play this course again in summer (heat and all) to see the beauty. It was still fun and challenging for this 15 handicap player,

Carper's Valley Golf Club
"local and enjoyable"
Although an older course it has improved with age and with the rainy season last year (2002) the greens are fuller. A range is available and I try to get the most of my short game with the putting green. The back nine brings you up next to the airport but the single engine planes are not loud and are enjoyable to watch landing as your partner tries to keep up your great shot.
