This wide open course plays longer than the yardage indicates. The fairways are well groomed, and the greens are undulating. Water hazards (lakes or a swamp) come into play on seven holes. The signature hole is #9, a 511-yard, par 5, requiring an approach shot over both a marsh and water hazard to the green. Walking the course is only allowed after 3 PM during the week and after 4 PM on Fridays and weekends.

A very good experience, Mar 21, 2006

I played Draper Valley on a windy, cool Sunday afternoon in March and, other than my terrible play, enjoyed the experience. I will say that during this time of year, the course is not what I would call 'pretty'. Later in the spring and during the summer or fall, Draper Valley would be very attractive. The course plays quite long and with a couple of notable exceptions, is quite straight. The shorter holes reward accuracy and shot placement. The longer holes are more forgiving of errant big hits, with the exception of #10 which has a marsh and a pond guarding the green, neither of which can be seen from the fairway. This is one of the most challenging holes I have played. A good value for your time and your money. The day I played the greens were incredibly fast and displayed no break at all. I'm sure that as the season progresses that will change.

Played this course in October. We were rushed around the course. (we played it in 3 hours and 15 minutes) Did not enjoy it and won't come back.

"Best Kept Secret In Central VA"
Of all the courses I have played through out VA I would have to say this is one of the best kept secrets in Virginia. The greens are very fast but yet they hold very well. The vista's of the mountains on the back nine are breath taking. The #17 hole could one day be as comparable to one of the holes at Augusta or the TPC Sawgrass. Its and old club with alot of history set up in a beautiful historic town! If you can get your self and invitation to play it I would highly recommend it. Keep your head down and let it rip. Bill P.

This course has so much potential. As it stands it is still one of the best courses in Houston for one thing and one thing only: Greens. It is just unfortunate that it has changed management hands several times in the last few years. In the process, each regime has focused on different things. Mostly cutting back on what the previous management did. No overseeding fairways in winter, Sand bunkers that qualify as gumbo bunkers, No restrooms on course, carts that badly need replacement. To compete with area course price points, they have dropped their average rates. What this means is more course play with less revenue. Couple this with the fact that there is less maintenance staff and no one fills in divots. Looks like a bombing campaign afterphoto on some fairways. The claim to fame is "Best greens in Houston". While this may still be true, the overall package is declining. I am concerned that even the greens may suffer as a consequence of the extra play and reduced maintenance. They used to put balls out on the range, but no more. They have some funky bag system where you lug these large red bags to the range with you. It could be so much better. Aesthetics are an afterthought. Actually, no one is thinking of aesthetics at all. I think they just keep thinking they can coast on the fumes of the reputation of their greens. Their slogan when the club opened 6 years ago was "Country Club for a day". An updated version would be more like "Mcgolf with your redneck buddies for a day".

"WOW, WHAT A COURSE!!!!!!!"
I have never putted on such undulating greens in my life, this course gave me fits.... I had never played here so I didnt know what I was in for, really tough course if your not familiar with it.... I crushed a drive on one hole, dont rememeber which one but I thought I hit at least a 300yd drive, well I did but it landed in a pond on the other side of a sloping fairway. Never knew the the water was there.... you cant see it from the tee box... (very sneaky). just one of the great holes on this gem....if you want some putting practice, then this your course.... go for it....

"Beautiful Course"
I grew up playing this course......I live in Florida now, but it was and remains a great place to play golf. It's not the TPC, but it is a fun and challenging course.
