This resort encompasses 2,000 beautiful acres of woods and water. Originally the site of a hunting and fishing preserve, in the mid-1980's it was purchased by the Domino's Corporation as a corporate retreat. Today, the complex is locally owned and operated. The course is perennially named to Michigan's top 10 list by "Michigan Golfer Magazine," but this isn't a course just for big hitters or scratch players. The people who love this course play to all levels, and like it because it's an experience, not just a round. The course was designed by Harry Bowers, who learned at the knee of Robert Trent Jones. He cut this emerald out of limestone, trimmed by hardwood and cedar, crafting each fairway separately over 400 acres. And now, play here is controlled. There are few, if any, waits. Each group of golfers is in their own game, unaware of any other golfers on the course except the players ahead or behind. They have four tees and therefore, four choices of challenges on each hole. "I like The Rock. I like how holes are isolated so you can golf in scenic seclusion. I like how the ponds, lakes and waterfalls are too pretty to be called water hazards," said Rick Sylvain, the Michigan travel editor for Detroit Free Press. The facility participates in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System, proof that this isn't just one of the best golf courses in the Midwest, this is a wildlife habitat as well. Discounts are offered through various golf and charity cards.

The best course I've ever played., Feb 11, 2004
reviewer: Alex from Drummond Island, MI USA
This course is wonderful. I have a summertime home up on Drummond Island, and I play the rock every chance I get. It's just great, it captures the wonderful essence of the Island in a golf course. It's just a great place to be. You feel so alive, in the early summer morning being on this course. Plus the golf aspect is also great. It's a bit of a challenge, but when you're at the rock, you love the challenge. I guarantee, that unless you play the courses on the PGA tour, that the rock will be the best golf experience of your life.
