Sand Springs Golf Course

Old Turnpike Rd
Drums, PA 18222
Phone: (570)788-5845

This is a shotmaker's course that includes tree-lined fairways defined by a multiple cut of rough. The terrain is rolling, but there are no blind shots to worry about. The large greens are fairly undulating, fast and a couple are double-tiered. With wetlands present on the course, there is an abundance of wildlife and an assortment of fowl that frequent the course's grounds. Locals consider this course one of the best within a fifty-mile radius. A state-of-the-art irrigation system enables the grass to remain at its peak during the warmest summer months. Plans are currently underway for this course to convert from a public facility to a private facility.

the course is tight that is not the reason for the low rating. the lack of fairwairy grass was a big problem the greens were bumppy all day ( i was told the greens are what makes the place). overall go someplace else the course is bad!

A tight, no-frills pleasure, May 05, 2004
reviewer: Brian from Drums, PA
Five-year old Sand Springs is located at the intersection of Rtes. 80 and 81 in the Pocono Mountains. The first course in PA to offer bent-grass from tee box to green, the course is always in excellent condition. This is a shotmaker's course-- there is little room for error, as the trees and wetlands come into play just yards off the fairway. Reading the holes from green to tee, and knowing where to place your next shot, will enable a low score. Don't look for lush water hazards, or well groomed sand traps-- Sand Springs plays into its mountain environment, allowing the trees and wetlands to broach most shots. A variety of lengths on 3s, 4s and 5s. Greens at peak of season are fastest in the area. Don't expect to be blown away by the track-- it's a simple, tight and highly rewarding challenge.
