This course is an excellent place for the average golfer because of the tree-lined fairways and well-bunkered greens. There are water hazards that come into play on a number of the holes. The area is a somewhat dense pine tree forest, to which the course owners have added a large number of Azaleas. The signature hole is #8, a 470-yard, par 4, featuring many sand bunkers, a double dogleg fairway, and requiring an approach shot over a large water hazard to the green. Tee times are only reserved for weekends and holidays.

The last time I was here the course had some bare patches. Not so, this time-course conditions have improved. A bargain and a challenge rolled into one!!!!!!

Course begins with some tame holes, but graduates from holes 4-8 to some fairly difficult holes. Hole #10 is quirky, as is #18, but overall the course has a fair amount of challenge. Can be a little sparse with the grass. A real bargain, anytime!

"Shape your game"
I grew up the area playing this course weekly for many years.I shaped my game at this little gem. Sixteen years later I play golf in Austin and work with a team of middle school golfers. As for Hilcrest...The first 3 holes are par 3s.(W/9,5/6, W/SW) They added some water to number one and moved the tee years ago. It puts a whole new spin on number one. People are less likely to hit the cars in the parking lot and/or Mr. Wilson's house too. Huge pines could save your ball from a feild(now the driving range) on the left if you are hooker.People teeing off on number eight and on 7's green also come in to play for some bad slicers. Three had a huge Oak that came into play for high wedges coming in from the left side. Water fountain at 4 was nice In July and august. Number 4 is a ~310yard par 4. Little ditch running accross about 270? made many people lay-up. Eagleable on many days. Another par 3 follows a treeline for Hole 5 and then my favorite par 4 is next. Over a wide lake...that eats up every bad slice for righties. Another eagleable ~300yarder. The lake has nice size bass in it too. Seven is the only par 5, a dogleg to the right. Eight is a par 4 with a huge ditch eating drives by the minute. And we end with a par 4, left dogleg that is reachable with a crush over the corner. Lights added make night golf fun! Drving range is huge so you have plenty of swing room.

Bent Creek Country Club
"Exquisite Conditioning"
I was a member at Bent Creek for ten years until moving to South Carolina. Day in and day out, compared with top caliber courses, this is probably the best conditioned course in the Mid-Atlantic area. Tees, fairways, and greens are bent grass, as are the practice tees and even one of the two practice ranges. The course is more difficult than its slope and course rating indicate, with very difficult holes at the start, especially from the back tees. It is a great course for average players from the regular men's tees, and a fantastic test for better players from the back. An under-par score from the back tees is exceptional.
