Most of the fairways on this short course are tree lined and narrow. There are no sand bunkers, but there are a few grass bunkers. Water hazards come into play on four holes. The terrain is hilly, and the greens are dome shaped, with speeds determined by the seasonal weather conditions.

They don't call it the "Skillet" for nothin', Aug 25, 2004

This local legend has been improved in the past year, but it's nickname will endure forever. The narrow fairways and hard as rock greens were legendary during my years there. The beautiful thing about the Skillet was that you could walk from the dorm and it was dirt cheap. Plus, it made for a great place to throw a few back late at night.

Marshall Canyon Golf Club
"Trickier than you think and don't EVER walk."
Marshall Canyon is a fun course with some quirky holes but for the most part it is pretty fair. The greens are trickier than you think and there are some hole placements that totally suck if you get above the hole. It is a hilly course that you don't want to walk unless you are in very good walking shape. All in all, it is a good course with a decent price.

18 months ago this course was finally purchased by someone who really wanted to make a statement about the course. They finally finished off the exiting log structure into a beautiful clubhouse/restaurant/bar. With fantastic views of the course, there are few clubhouses that can beat this "19th hole". The course itself did need some work, the greens looked like they had had some issues over the winter. There are plans underway to relocate holes 8 & 9 (which is a good thing, they are probably the most blah holes on the course) and build a 60 room hotel. All-in-all the course is still one of my favorite courses up in GR. Some TLC to the greens and this course is one of the best in northern Minnesota.

Golf Club at Cinco Ranch
"Cinco Golf Course"
I played out at Cinco Ranch for high school golf about every week. They keep their course in great shape and is a great experience. I'm playing a high school tournament out there tommorow and the conditions are great. If you are looking for a course with fast greens and great cut fairways this is yours. If you do slack the front 9 you can definatley count on doing good on the back. This course has wonderful views with ponds and scares opponents with dreadful bunkers. Golfers beware this is a course you won't forget.
