This eighteen hole course is unusual for Southwest Florida because of its rolling terrain. The greens are medium to large, and very fast. They are also moderately undulating. Some of the greens are two and three-tiered. The fairways are tree lined and rather tight. The course hosted a qualifying round for the Senior PGA Tour Ace Classic in February, 1999. Over thirty-percent of this course's patronage is repeat business, which is a good testament to its service, playability and conditioning. There is a twenty-four hour tee reservation line at (941) 498-9979.

Pelican Sound, a fair challenge for all., Feb 29, 2004 |

| The three nines at Pelican Sound are quite similar in design (but isn't that true for most Florida golf courses) however they do offer some diverse challenges. The fairways are wide, but don't let that give you a false sense of security. They tend to fall off towards lakes, marshes and palmetto bushes rendering your ball lost or unplayable. The greens are large, slightly elevated and well contoured. Green speeds vary depending on grain direction but are always in excellent condition. Watch out for down hill down grain putts, they will get away from you very easily. The practice facilities are good, providing a aqua range (not my favorite, but tends to be the norm in Florida) a good chipping area with a large bunker and a large putting green. Overall Pelican Sound is a good, challenging and fair golf experience. If you can get a tee-time (high season) it is a good course to add to your rotation. |
