This course was cut out of a mature pine forest, but it still features open fairways. The par 3's are considered by locals as being the most difficult aspect of the course. About half of the greens are elevated, and all of them are well bunkered. Water hazards come into play on ten holes. The signature hole is #16, a 442-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot up a dogleg fairway, then an approach shot over a creek to the green.

Harder than it looks, May 19, 2004

This old Florida course is long and flat, and appears fairly straight forward. However, it's well trapped and there are little ponds and creeks which come into play on an errant shot. The greens aren't large, but they hold well, and putt true. The breaks are subtle, so take care. There are no houses on the course, and no roads, so this makes for a lovely outing to me. If you break 80, you've shot a good round.

A tremendous couse in a beautiful mountain setting, especially in September and October when in full fall foliage, the afternoon temperatures in the low 70's and the skies so blue the horizon lines become razor sharp. The back nine challange you with mountain streams, blind doglegs, an occasional buck jumping from a creek bed and or lofty tee boxes daring you to choose a loftier iron for dropping it between the aspens and the traps.... Not too many courses in the world offer better views, thinner air for longer drives, or nicer people to pamper your needs. July through mid October is prime... take plenty of time and the closest of friends, I guarantee you a memorable experiance and a challanging round!

Stevens Park Golf Course
"Classic Muny"
Stevens is only a few minutes from downtown. It's in a beautiful area and has some scenic views of Dallas. It's a classic muny and a good course to walk. There are many challenging holes and there are some very easy holes. Number 2 is a very short par 4 and is reachable from all of the tees. Number 12 is a short par 5 dog leg that is reachable in 2 but there are many well placed trees and an elevated green with a mean slope and you'll be happy if you get your 5. There are a few holes where you can hit your drive as far as you can but most take some strategy off the tee. On 17 you can hit 220 yards straight away or 140 yards to the right side of the fairway and both will leave an open short iron shot to the green... if you avoid two beautiful oaks and a wide creek on that tee shot. The par 3's are gorgeous and the two on the back are included in the 3 hardest on the back nine handicap chart. Stevens Park is a favorite, great taquitos in the snack bar too.
