Too Bad...A childhood memory is gone., May 06, 2009

I learned to play golf at Evergreen G.C. I was seven years old when my father, a grad student at Western Washington, took me there for the first time. It was 1963. By 1964, I was out driving my dad's freinds. Flat, short and challenging. And the hamburgers were AWESOME...and lest we forget, the Cokes made from syrup and soda water. I am sad to see this course gone.

The property was sold, and the golf course closed. What a pity! It was a great place for beginners and an asset to the community. The closest affordable course is now Raspberry Ridge.

"The cream of the Crop"

"Love the Greens"
This course is back on the map. I use to play it a long time ago but was never in good condition. You should see it now. The new owners have begun work on the irrigation system, cart paths all the way around and over seeded the entire course. It is definiteley a must play for the value.

Nisqually Valley Golf Course
"A good winter course"
This is a good course for golfers who can have fun without elaborate amenities. Practice facilites are minimal as is the proshop. The main assets are: golf value per dollar (great senior rates), minimal paved golf car paths so a ball is seldom scuffed and ricocheted to bad places, playability through the winter as the drainage is good because only minimal grading was done during construction. Walking is easy as there are only three areas that rise 20 or thirty feet. There are some nice oak tree framed views of Mt. Rainier. On approximately 90 acres this is, consequently, a very compact course with fairways side by side, so be alert to the call of "fore" and protect yourself. You should not hesitate to yell when you strike one out of your fairway.
