| Played the red course, it was pretty beat up. The city of Bridgeport must recycle its streets sweepings from the winter sanding by putting it in the Red Course bunkers. Alot of half-completed work around the course, the cart paths are like the Chisolm Trail, and the fairways have bare patches and crabgrass.
The Black course is in better condition, and has different sand in the bunkers. Red is the before version and Black is the after. The Black is competitive, but even at $50 on the weekend the value is questionable. If you are stuck with the Red, move on. |

| Played the course on 10/13/08. Two of us were teamed up with two others. The course is decent. Some beautiful holes, especially on the back nine (fall foliage didn't hurt). The conditions are acceptable. Greens and fairways were fine, parts of the rough are in bad shape, but that's the least important part of a golf course..... The front nine has a bunch of semi-blind shots, it helped that we were with a local. (he said the red course gets a bad wrap and that it's not bad either, we avoided it based on bad reviews). The back nine was really nice. Quality fun holes. Pretty challenging at times too.
I would go back for sure. 50.00 Holiday/Weekend rate with a cart is worth it. The pace moved along a bit slow, 4.5 hr round. It was a good change if your used to playing the same course all of the time. |

| I played Red Course at Fairchild Wheeler yesterday, I have a few complaints, one is I booked to play the new Black course side knowing the issues on the Red Course which the course should be ashamed about. The fact there is still no sand in the bunkers since I played there in the spring is really uncalled for. They messed up which course we were playing on and made no amends to make the customer happy. The course caters to men and really give women a hard time and the cold shoulder and in one case, down right nasty to me and my golf guest. Even down to the fact there is no proper ladies room.
While it has been raining for the last 2-3 weeks on and off. I expect some standing water on the course. However, there was water that is at least 10-20" on far too many of the holes and you could tell it was there for a few months, loaded with green algae floating on the top. Most of the sand traps are filled with water as well and no sand
Some areas we saw snakes and the Geese have taken to them as swimming pools, with droppings (poop) around the area. They were also infested with all sorts of bugs and mosquitos. Deer have also been in the areas where water was collecting, most likely there to drink, we saw many piles of deer droppings, I expect to see that on the edge near the rough, but close to the hole.
I brought this to the attention of what was to be the manager and he just rolled his eyes at me. I told him if it had been the rain from the last few storms there would not be algae.
I feel this is a health concern and needs to be addressed. We got eaten alive at hole #11 where quite frankly that whole hole should be closed down. I play many courses all year and none are like this.
I hope a management company like Troon or Traditions takes over this course!! |
