This very demanding course's front nine fairways are open, while its back nine fairways are narrow. The most difficult hole is #7, a 409-yard, par 4, featuring a huge pine tree directly in front of the green. In addition, water hazards come into play on a few holes.

On a recent visit to Roanoke our foursome had the pleasure if playing Great Oaks. This is without a doubt one of the if not the most picturesque courses of it's type I've ever played. The layout is superb and challenging. I can't wait to go back.

I found Foxwood to be a course that could use some improvements. However, I did enjoy playing this course and the layout. The employees were true pros. The course is shaded with many trees which allows you to hone your placement skills. This course surely is a diamond in the rough.

Some of the holes are short but with the smaller greens and water meandering around the course it makes you think as to what club to scale back to as well as making sure you don't do too much slicing. Most of the holes you can hit right at the hole if you have a high 8,9 or PW. You have to be careful off the tee on some holes due to the water running across the fairway. The back nine has some undulating fairways. The largest green seems to be No. 18 and it slopes quite a bit downward from back to front. The fairway grass has gotten better over the years since it was known as SLOCUM golf course. The staff is friendly and accommodating.

Grandy Nine Golf Club
"Frequent Grandy 9 Golfer"
This is a 'cute' family-owned-type feel of a golf course. I've been here many, many times with my family because it's off the beaten path and used to be fairly quiet. My parents still golf there quite a bit. Probably a fairly easy for the professional, but very nice for the beginner or one looking for an easier challenge. Not a lot of fluff anywhere in the club-house or course, but that adds to it's quaintness.
