This course's fairways are tree lined, but somewhat open. The undulating greens are fast, and there are two water hazards coming into play on six holes. The signature hole is #15, a 599-yard, par 5, requiring a tee shot up a dogleg right fairway, then past a water hazard and some sand bunkers in order to reach its small green.

The layout is great and you are challenged with every hole. Putting is not for the faint at heart but a good ball striker will be rewarded. this course is a classic between youe ears couse that leaves you feeling rewarded by good play.

"Delightful Donald Ross Challange"
This private course was designed by Donald Ross to be a resort course in the early twentieth century. It was purchased after World War II by locals and formed into a club known as San Jose Golf and Country Club and has been sucessfully maintained as the private club since. It is the home course to many prominent Jacksonville residents. One must be a member or guest to play. It is a par 72. The greens are all adjacent to the tees, so that it can be walked easily. There are water hazards sprinkled throughout the course, which make it a dangerous layout for errant shots. The moderately fast greens are well maintained Burmuda and are sometimes puzzling with rolling configuration. A mature course--kept in excellent shape year-round.

"Challenging par 3 course"
My index was a 10 when I played this course in March 2003 and it kicked my butt. You're shooting up to greens sometimes and down other times and most of the time there isn't much room for error as I learned by losing a couple of balls by mis-clubbing. I played the course twice around to get in a full 18 and ended up 13 over by the end. It was fun and more than I expected from a course this size. My only gripe would be that the greens were not as smooth as they could have been. It's cheap and you can play it quick in 1.5 hours. Give it a shot!!
