This old-style course is very hilly, so you can expect some uneven lies. The course was built on the natural terrain. The greens are fast, and there are water hazards coming into play on four holes. The fairways are tree lined, and the elevated greens are undulating and multi-tiered. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 9th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and 4th in the same category for 1997-98. "GOLFWEEK" voted the course 52nd among "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" for 1997, 65th in 1998 and 69th in 1999.

Hilltop Country Club
"Neatest course in Texas"
I went and played a round of golf at the Hilltop Country Club last week for the first time. It was an expereince,the course is set up real cool. I was a high school golfer who would have loved to get out of school and walk to go play golf rather than riding 30 minutes on a bus to and from practice everyday. The course is on the grounds of Troup ISD.And after I got finished playing golf I walked to the 19th and had a cold budlight.The bar has what ever you want,and the ladies were so nice.

Lakes at El Segundo, The
"Great Course, Better Practice Facility"
The Lakes at El Segundo is a beutiful course with some stunning par 3s. The couse is made up of moslty short par 3s and a couple short par 4s. The holes are all very short and beautifully kept. This couse can be played by both beginners and eperts alike. The downsides are that the course is crowded, so expect to wait on the tees. I recomend reservations several days in advance. The other downside is that your day is over after only nine holes. The practice facility is excellent and Tiger Woods, who has a home in nearby Redondo Beach can often be seen playing there. It has an awesome driving range and a huge putting and chipping green. If your just out to get some practice in, or a quick nine holes, this is the place.

One of the best 9 hole courses I have ever played. It has some hazards and great landscaping to help it set itself apart from other courses. The greens are fast and the fairways are long! I enjoyed the course more than most 18's.
