River Forest Country Club
Route 356 SFreeport, PA 16229
Phone: (724)295-2217
This course has no water hazards, but all its holes are well bunkered. Locals say this is a difficult course because most of the fairways are doglegs and lined by mature trees. In addition, the course has four extremely difficult par 3's.

| Course is absolute mess. Prefer McDonalds for food quality. Management most arrogant ever encountered. Who do they think they are? |

| Greens were slow and golf course in general is not well kept.It is a challenging course. I found the staff rude and unfriendly, catered to the men golfers. Would never be a member or go again. Played Golf all over the country this will be first and last visit. |

| While I have not played River Forest in many years, it is one of the courses around Freeport where I learned to play and improve my game as a youngster and young man. The layout and characteristics force a player to use strategy, finesse, and decision-making to score well. It truly taught me to develop a superior short game. This course can humble a player who is too agressive or who lacks a good short game. After I moved away from the area, I always look forward to playing River Forest when I visited family. Definately play this course if you have the opportunity. And remember, everything breaks toward the Allegheny! |

| This course is beautifully landscaped and the holes are well placed. This is somewhat a difficult course, so if you are a beginner I wouldn't recommend this. Otherwise, it is an awesome course. |

Fun Course, Apr 02, 2004 |

| I've been a member of the club for about 5 years and played the course often prior to that. The improvements made over the last few years add challenge and interest. The par 5 #3 is very tough, but fun. I've birdied it and tripled it. You never know what will happen. The signature of the course is its trees. If you don't hit the ball straight, you'll be adding strokes to your score. |

| I've been a member for 20+ years and have a preference for this course. This course seems to have several improvements since the review up top. A large pond with fountain was added to the long par 5 #3, and several new tee boxes have been added for both the long-ballers and the seniors. The course is a challenge for most, especially the greens and tight fairways, but it also provides a really enjoyable 'walk in the park' for many. The course is often busy with couples walking the scenic tract. Seems a lot of people enjoy the league play as there are ladies leagues 3 days, evening leagues on 4 days, and a couples' league on Sunday afternoons that we have joined. Good course for good players, who enjoy the game. |

River Forest: A golfer's Golf Course., Feb 12, 2004 |

| Probably one of the most maligned course in Western Pennsylvania, and for good reason: River Forest is a very difficult layout, and not for Patzers who want to roll it up for a par or bogey, and not for long drivers who can find themselves with a 2 stroke penalty quickly. The course seems to have an uncanny, and sometimes eerie ability to locate and humble arrogant and inattentive golfers with triple or quadruple bogeys. Designed by original owner Wynn Treadway in the mid 60's, this classical purist believed in the straight ball and excellent short-game skills. Isn't that what golf should be about? Each par four has a specific landing area for the drives, otherwise one is penalized with line of sight problems or an uneven stance. This is usually followed by small, bunkered greens that require excellent putting skills. Although the par fives give some relief(At this point in your round, it is much welcomed!)the same applies to those greens as well. And these greens are more undulated than usual, to say the least, but that is the central character of this most challenging and beautiful golf course. If you like flat greens and wide fairways for your Jumbo driver, there are plenty of Public courses in the area for you. However,if you are a golfer and want to play the game as it should be played, then River Forest is for you. Just remember to bring your A game, some good wedges and just a little respect for an excellent golf course that, when you play well, it really means something. Beautiful is the word, so make sure you take a lot of time to look at the scenery. This usually has a calming affect that can enhance one's performance. Couple this with an extremely friendly and attentive clubhouse staff, will result in an exceptional golfing experience. |

what about the greens, Feb 12, 2004 |

| What makes river forest a difficult course is their greens. They can put the pin placements where it is possible to three and four putt greens even if you play it everyday.Slopping greens make every putt a challenge. They also have added a water hazard to #3 making it impossible to reach in 2.With the addition of new tee boxes and several holes with where you can knock it OB good luck for all you 10 handicappers to try and break 90 on you first couple rounds. |
