This course is similar to a links-style course. The greens are small and fast, and water comes into play on four holes. The signature hole is #7, a 451-yard, par 4, with a standard cut of rough lining both sides of the fairway from tee to green. Frank Duane redesigned six holes in 1970, and Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva redesigned the entire course in the 1970's.

I was lucky enough to play this course as a guest do to my cousins membership. It was one of the best courses I've played recently. The course is challenging yet not to hard to not be fun. It is also gorgeous. If you ever get the chance I recommend you play it

Forest Hills Golf Club
"What a public course SHOULD be!"
Forest Hills is likely one of the nicest under-$50 courses you'll find anywhere. The home of the Augusta State University golf team, the course recently underwent significant renovation, which did a lot to improve the quality of the course as a whole. Druing the spring annd summer months, blooming dogwood and azaelea trees line the teeboxes and fairways of several holes. The fairways are narrow throughout the course, but the rough (and even the woods, for hacks like me) is forgiving enough to make play challenging but not frustrating. Early in the spring the new seed on some of the greens might not have had a chance to sprout yet, and as such they may be a bit hard and gave some funny breaks. This usually resolves around mid to late April, when the temperatures warm up and the spring rains come. The fairways and teeboxes always seem full and well-maintained, however. Water comes into play on three holes on the back nine (a par five and two par threes), but not so much that it requires imposisble shhotmaking. The name should tip you off that a few of the holes require extreme up- or downhill approaches, but overall, the slope of the course doesn't contribute much in terms of absoulte difficulty. My only real complaint about the course istelf is the lack of hole markers and/or a course map on the scorecard. Although the layout is very traditional, those who've never played the course before might find themselves teeing off on the wrong hole in a couple of areas. Despite this one minor flaw, Forest Hills remains one of my favorite courses in the area. The staff are wonderfully friendly, the snack bar serves good food (and GREAT mixed drinks,) and MCG and ASU students get a significant discount, making this already reasonably priced course even more of a deal. Be sure to get a cart on weekends or during Masters week so that you're not rushed, but if you get the chance to play on a weekday or a Sunday afternoon, by all means indulge the opportunity to walk this beauty. Finally, for those of you who've heard horror stories about Forest Hills charging $100 per round on Masters week, be advised that unlike the other courses in the area, Forest Hills doesn't raise their rates to make an outright profit...in fact, the extra money goes to benefit the ASU golf team, so whether its Masters week, or any week, I would dfinitely recommend that you play Forest Hills if you get the chance and enjoy what a nice, affordable, public course experience SHOULD be.
