This course, which was built on the grounds of Gavilan Joint Community College, is located in cattle country amongst numerous trees and wildlife. There are five par 3's and four par 4's in the design. The par 4's are very narrow and the greens are small and tricky. The finishing hole, a 150-yard, par 3, is difficult, requiring a carry over a ravine. The course is excellent for beginners, and the greens have a reputation of always being in outstanding shape.

| This is one of the best short courses I have ever played. It is a great course for working on your short game, and at the same time has some fun par 4's. I have played this course over the years and the new management has the course in the best shape it has ever been in. They keep the fairways mowed, have longer rough and the greens are in excellent shape. They have also done a lot of work with their sand traps, which are in very good condition. I play many of the more expensive courses in the area, such as Eagle Ridge and Coyote (both very nice courses) and I think Gavilan Golf Course now offers one of the best golf values in the area, whether you are working on your game, or just out for a fun round of Golf. I am surprised they are able to keep their green fees so low, considering how much work they have done on the course. All of this and you can still just go and play without a tee time on most days, including the weekends. I think it is the best kept secret in South Santa Clara County as far as Golf, which makes me wonder why I am writing this note. I guess my unselfishness took over! |
