This well-maintained, target course has recently received an environmental stewardship award. An abundance of wildlife lives on or around the course. The signature hole is #16, a 486-yard, par 5, easily reachable in two shots for possible eagles or birdies, but requiring accurate shots into the green because it is well guarded by trees and sand bunkers. Garrett Gill and George B. Williams redesigned the course in the late 1980's.

This course is not that well maintained. The marshalls never do their jobs because the course is constantly backed up. Would not recommend this course to an average golfer. Also beginners could find cheaper courses that would suit their need.

Nice, but weedy!!, Jun 26, 2007 |

I love Applewood. It has ups and downs, curves to the left or right, water, creeks, falcons and deer. Early morning or late afternoons are best. Bring balls - lots of balls, unless you are a straight consistent hitter! The edge of the fairways have very long grass and 9 times out of 10 - you will not find your ball. Some golfers tend to take too much time looking for a ball and that holds up the rest. I usually lose 3-4 balls each time. Be prepared to LET THE BALL GO, drop and play. It's a nice, fun course to play. Certainly recommended!!

Applewood is a good course if you live nearby, but don't travel for it. I do enjoy it, the scenery is nice, and some falcons make their nest on the trees to the right of the 14th fairway. However, they don't keep it up as well as some others and if you go early in the morning you stand a chance of getting a sprinkler in your face...

This course gives the average golfer some variety and callenges. The back ground of the foothills of golden and the fresh air of Colorado give this golf experience a great day out. The long drives and short par 3's give the course a great mix to use all of the clubs in your bag.
