Knollwood Golf Course

This course is located near the mountains, so the terrain is extremely undulating. The fairways vary between narrow to wide open, and the greens are fast and sloped. There are a few hazards that are dry, but considered water hazards and played according to the USGA rules. The greens vary from medium to small in size and are a little firm; it takes a high shot to hold many of these greens. All the holes are tree lined, and there are out-of-bounds stakes lining the majority of the fairways. There are many well-positioned fairway bunkers, as well as numerous greenside bunkers, including several pot bunkers, incorporated into the course design. This course was named the best "Go-Golf" course in Los Angeles County in 1992. The nine hole rate is available before 7:30 AM.

Nice Course!, Jul 23, 2004 |

I used to play this course when I was at graduate school at USC. We would look forward to those days about once a month when we could make our way up north to play Knollwood. I was able to play it again recently on a vacation and was very pleased with the improvements to the facilities. The course condition was very good. For strategy, this course has rolling terrain making club selection important. It is easy to get into trouble on some of the narrow fairways. For municipal golf it's hard to beat Knollwood.

If this course would put money into maintaining the fairways instead of more concrete cartpaths it could turn into a good course. Good drives are rewarded with being in divots all to many times. The greens are either running at 12 or 7 they never seem to get consistant speed between different greens either. It is a good course for practicing your wind game.

I had an really enjoyable time at Knollwood. Challenged from the first tee to the last green. If you can time it right the view at sunset from the 18th tee is spectacular.

Very challenging course for women. Men are impressed with women who can hit stright drives and consistant fairway shots onto the green. Men have a problem at Knollwood because of their ego gets the better of them.
