This course, which is part of Colgate University, has fairways that are fairly open and easy to walk. Water hazards (some ditches, four ponds, and a creek) come into play on twelve holes. The original plans for the course were drawn up by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. in the 1930's, set aside by the University, and then implemented in 1957 when the front nine was first opened. The back nine was designed after Jones' earlier plans and was opened in 1968. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 7th "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996.

Too bad its under 20 feet of snow for 3 months a year., May 08, 2004

Ok, so maybe not 5 stars, but I'm a proud alum. It does have an exceptional layout, and number 10 is one of my favorites in the world... If this was a private golf course, with some funds, it would be pretty exceptional. And although, I don't play Pebble every weekend, I have played the Old Course, a bunch in Scottsdale, PGA National, and I'm a member at Cordillera in Colorado.

This course allows you to use a variety of clubs and shots for an enjoyable challenging round. When the greens are in good shape, this is an excellent course. From the back tees, club selection becomes extremely important. The course deserves a championship clubhouse to complete a truly fantastic experience.
