Excellent golf course, Apr 23, 2004

This is an awesome course for a small Iowa town! It has a brand new clubhouse, set amongst giant oak trees. The course is well kept. The signature hole is #6, a par 4 which plays over a wide stream. Hit your drive short, you're in the drink. Wide right, you're in the woods. Wide left, you're in a grove of massive oak trees. But hit it straight, you could be on the green with a chance for birdie!

Ferncroft Country Club - Championship Course

I've placed hundreds of courses in this country and Ferncroft for a resort club is one of the better places to play! For a private resort the cost of greens fees are perhaps a bit expensive, but you have to willling to pay to play one of the better well run courses in the area! The Bent grass on the fairways and greens are always well maintained. The layout is challenging for a course of just over 6,600 yards from the tips. They've just rebuilt the 3rd Green and 4th Tee. From time to time depending on the season they may have some standing water issues. From what I've been told by the Director of Golf they are taking care of this in the near future with a new irrigation system.

Played course many times. Most enjoyable. Some forgiving holes and some challenging. All in all, a very playable course. Not too punitive. Want a challenge?, play the back tees. Most favorite hole is #12. Must get off good tee shot to be able to hold this canted green. Most of time you need to chip it to get it up and down for par. Most picturesque; #8. I'll be back...
