This resort, which was named to "GOLF Magazine's" 1998 list of "Silver Medal Resorts," features sixty-three holes, fifty-four of which are set up in three eighteen hole combinations, and a fourth course, the nine hole Arthur Hills Course. The back nine holes for the new Arthur Hills Course are under construction and should be ready by the end of the summer season in the year 2000. The Donald Ross Memorial Course was designed so that each hole would replicate another hole from the different courses designed by Donald Ross. The only hole that is not a Ross design is #10, which is a copy of the par 4, #14, at Royal Dornoch in Scotland ( where Ross grew up and learned the game of golf). "Golf Digest" rated this course 32nd among the "Top 75 Resort Courses" for 1992. The Heather Course has tree-lined fairways that are still wide open. Playing this course is not unlike being out in the country. The course features the Yardmark system, which is a display panel in the golf cart telling the player how far to the front of the green, distance to carry a hazard, and how far he/she has hit the tee shot. The Heather Course has been ranked by "Golf Digest" as the 74th "Best Resort Course in the U.S." The same publication rated it the 13th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and 23rd best in 1997-98. In addition, "GOLF Magazine" rated this course 90th under the 1996 category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." The Moor Course has the most water of the three courses, with water hazards coming into play on eleven holes. All of the courses were built at the base of a valley. The nine hole Arthur Hills Course is very challenging. Trees run along both sides of the fairways, some of which are split or dogleg configurations. Quite a few water hazards and bunkers come into play, and most of the greens have heavy undulation. Course rating and slope figures for the Arthur Hills Course are not presently available. The resort offers a twilight rate and other different discount rates throughout the season. The other tees shown are additional men's tees. Tee times for all five courses can be made by calling (616) 549-6026.
