Unfortunate Loss To Mississippi's Golf Industry, Jul 07, 2004

I had the opportunity to play Van Hook and was impressed by the great fairways and the beauty that surrounded the course. Unfortunately, the University of Southern Mississippi decided to shut down the course and use those beautiful acres to build storage facilities. A shame, really.

I'm on the Tecumseh High School golf team and Sugar Isle is our home course, its one the of the best courses in the area. We play all kinds of courses around this area and from the experiences I've had i think its one of the best. Its fairways are usually in pretty good shape and the greens are always in great shape, its not the best course to play on right after a big rain though because of all the rolling hills it doesnt drain water too well. I'd say its a challenge for the intermediate player and on some days even the advanced.
