This hilly course features small greens and plush fairways that are tree lined. Water hazards coming into play on five holes, including #1, a 485-yard, par 5, with a pond sitting in front of the green daring you to shoot for it in two. The signature hole is #15, a 140-yard, par 3, which is surrounded by bunkers and looks like a raised island green. Carts are mandatory from 7 am to 1 pm on weekends, no exceptions. Junior and Senior rates are available weekdays only. No special rates for holidays.

Neglected Beautiul Course, Apr 18, 2008

Wonderful old course with a great layout and lots of potential. Current owner has neglected course and greens are burned out with many bare spots. Holes and wooden stakes all over fairways. I played on a gorgeous 80 degree Friday and I was the ONLY PERSON at the course. This was a great place.....such a shame!!!

"Best Kept Secret In Central VA"
Of all the courses I have played through out VA I would have to say this is one of the best kept secrets in Virginia. The greens are very fast but yet they hold very well. The vista's of the mountains on the back nine are breath taking. The #17 hole could one day be as comparable to one of the holes at Augusta or the TPC Sawgrass. Its and old club with alot of history set up in a beautiful historic town! If you can get your self and invitation to play it I would highly recommend it. Keep your head down and let it rip. Bill P.

Durand Eastman Golf Course
"Good golf for a low price"
This course is an excellent example of Robert Trent Jones' genius. The course is not long, by modern standards, but many holes have elevation changes which make even the shortest of holes interesting and challenging. It winds through a beautiful, heavily wooded section if Durand - Eastman Park and in and out of two hugh revines which makes even your poorest round a joy. Some of the greens feature Jones' unique mounding that makes you think an elephant or two was buried there. The green speeds are not consistent for hole to hole, which makes for some interesting decisions on the pace of your putt, but considering the amount of play the course receives they are usually in pretty good shape for a public course. There are few long holes on the course, but the ones that are long are really difficult to to par. The only complaints I have about the course are; the speed of play (there are many not very accomplished golfers that tend to slow things down) and when the weather is wet the holes in the lower parts of the course stay pretty wet because there seems to be a problem with drainage. All things considered, this course is one of the best values for my golfing dollar that I have ever encountered.
