This old traditional course features narrow fairways and small greens. No water hazards come into play, but there are several sand bunkers and mounds incorporated into the course design. The Long Island Open and the Long Island Amateur has been played here in past years. AWE. Tillinghast designed nine new holes, which were added in 1924.

Tight tree lined fairways with ample landing areas, not much elevation, greens run quick but are true, with not much break. Membership plays constantly, always crowded...

"Nice Layout"
Course is well laid out, no worry of hitting into or being hit by other fairways. Golf community with housing that doesn't inhibit play. Bent grass greens are small, but fast and true. Traps need work. Rolling terrain provides challenge. Water hazards on about half the holes. Pretty course.

"Neatest course in Texas"
I went and played a round of golf at the Hilltop Country Club last week for the first time. It was an expereince,the course is set up real cool. I was a high school golfer who would have loved to get out of school and walk to go play golf rather than riding 30 minutes on a bus to and from practice everyday. The course is on the grounds of Troup ISD.And after I got finished playing golf I walked to the 19th and had a cold budlight.The bar has what ever you want,and the ladies were so nice.

"Phil Mickelson`s College Course..."
If Phil Mickelson honed his game here then you can imagine why hes so good. This course is very difficult if you dont hit the fairways, and if your drive is a little off your in trouble. This is a very tight driving type course, you must be in the fairway at all times, some holes are not as bad as others but some are hazardous to your golf game. I did not play well here, I am not a great player so after playing here I decided unless I get much better at this game I should avoid this course. The greens are extremly fast, I mean like putting on marble. The first hole is a good opening hole, if you hit the fairway your fine buuuuut, go left or right your in trouble. I hit my drive to the right as I am a lefty, i pull hooked my tee shot on to a mound, when I addresed the ball to hit it my right leg was up so high that I popped the ball straight up in to air and it went maybe 75 yds. already I was looking at bogie at best.... not a good beginning to my golf day. A great course non the less, your putting will be severly tested here...Have fun.....
