This course, which was originally called Seven Hills, is exclusive to guests staying at the Rio Hotel. The course is located at the foot of the Black Mountains and was cut through the desert and washes. The fairways are wide open with several sand bunkers in the landing area. The undulating greens are large and also protected by bunkers. The signature hole is #7, a 417-yard, par 4, featuring a dogleg left fairway that leads to a green cut into the face of the canyon wall. Slope and course ratings were not available at the time of publication. Butch Harmon, the swing coach for Tiger Woods, moved his base of operation from the exclusive, all-male Lochinvar Country Club in Houston to this facility in the fall of 1997 to open the Butch Harmon School of Golf. "Golf Digest" selected this course 7th on its list of "Best New Upscale Public Courses" for 1998.

Perry Golf & Country Club
"Best kept secret in central Iowa"
With rolling hills and mature trees, Perry G&CC is an aesthetically pleasing, yet challenging course. A beautiful pond surrounded by wildflowers is in play on the # 2 and 3 holes. Greens are in fine shape and medium fast. Accuracy off the tee is important because of the trees and some uneven lies. Although it is a private club, green fees for non-residents are easily accessible and very affordable. Carts available. The clubhouse staff is friendly and accommodating. Well worth your time and money.

Liberty Country Club
"Great Condition and Layout"
This course has a beautiful layout and hole construction. Similar to the old "country club" style courses, this smaller operation club gets the job done with what must be a low budget because the course is just in outstanding shape. The bent-grass fairways look good all year round and maintain their grass even in the hot summer afternoons of August. They also had great deals available for play during the week and for people wanting to have an outing. I'm definitely going to play at the Liberty Country Club again.

Savannah Golf Club, The
"Deceptively Challenging"
Although relatively short in length, the Savannah Golf Club is a typical Donald Ross design in that it demands use of all clubs in your bag and the ability to shape shots. The greens are generally small, slope up from front to rear, and can be very slick. Shots ending above the hole can easily turn into 3-putts. All of the par-5's are reachable in two shots to low-handicap, long hitters, but more birdies on these holes generally result from well-placed 1st and 2nd shots and agressive 3rd shot sand wedges. Holes 1, 2, 4, and 6 are demanding par-4's that most good golfers are happy to score par on. There is only 1 par-5 on the front and 3 on the back, and the par-4's on the back are also less demanding, making the inward 9 at least 3 or 4 strokes easier than the front side. Low-handicappers can expect a minimum of 4 or 5 birdies in a good round, but bogies and double-bogies can sneak up and bite you on even the most seemingly benign holes. Finally, there are many good players and the members here can expect to play their round in less than 4 hours.
