This course was sculpted out of the mountain terrain. It is fair for both intermediate and beginning golfers, yet still an enjoyable test for the scratch golfer. The scenery is magnificent on this course. The fairways are narrow, and the medium-sized greens are fast. Water hazards (creeks, waterfalls, and ravines) come into play on many holes, and the terrain is hilly so it can be strenuous to walk. The most picturesque hole is #9, a 203-yard, par 3, offering a 180-degree view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This dramatic par 3 drops in elevation as much as 125 feet to a large green that is well bunkered. This is the home course of designer Tom Fazio. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 6th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and the 7th best for 1997-98.

Champion Hills - great place to play or to live, Feb 04, 2004
reviewer: Anna and Larry from Atlanta, GA USA
The course is spectacular, both in scenery and in the variety of play that can be had -- from novice to expert. Tom Fasio did a great job, using natural elements beautifully. Watch out for the 4" rough! It is lush and can eat your balls so magically that they can NOT be found. Course management is excellent. Hazards are well maintained as are the fairways and greens. Most of the T-boxes are elevated and the views in the valleys include small waterfalls, hardwoods, mountain laurel and rhododendron covered hills with mountain vistas all around. The clubhouse offers wonderful sunsets and terrific food. Excellent additional amenities like a health club, tennis, practice areas. VERY nice bungalos for lease, nearby B&B, charming small town. Close to Asheville, Biltmore House, Grandfather Mountain, Greenville/Spartanburg airport, Appalachian Trail... We really love this area and this particular course.
