This scenic course is well designed. The signature hole is #6, a 420-yard, par 4, which features a beautiful lake alongside its borders. The greens are small and undulating. "Golf Digest" rated this course 34th best under the category of "America's Top 75 Affordable Courses" in their 1996 list of "America's Best Golf Courses Everyone Can Play." It was also rated 69th among the "Top 75 Public Courses" for 1990.

This is a great course for beginners to very experienced players. It is very well kept and provides many challenges from somewhat open holes to dog legs that create blind shots to the green. The staff is courteous and provide a great customer experience every time. The attraction of the grill at the half way mark provides a cool environment to enjoy a great burger, sandwich, or drink with affordable prices and great customer service. A drink/snack cart attendant roams the course throughout the day which is a nice perk. Great course, beautiful views of Oak Hollow Lake and countryside, I highly recommend.

Saticoy Country Club
"Best kept secret in Ventura County"
SCC is the best golf course I've played in Ventura County. Surprisingly, it seems to be the best kept secret as well. While it is not as immaculate as Sherwood Country Club or Spanish Hills, it's layout is superior. #17 is one of the most exciting par 4's I've ever played - in both asthetics and difficulty. The golf course is mature with lightning quick greens. I've heard that Fred Couples went to Saticoy when preparing for Augusta. Every par 3 and par 5 on the golf course could be a signature hole anywhere else. SCC's strongest course feature is the use of elevation changes - no blind shots. There are only 3 or 4 "average" holes. It's not a surprise that the USGA chose it for US Open qualifying. If you get an opportunity to play SCC, don't pass it up. I recommend playing with a member who knows which side of the green to target. Perhaps in the near future, I will be lucky enough to do somebody that favor.

Waterlefe Golf & River Club
"Waterlefe - Exceptional Winter Golf Experience"
The first thing you notice about Waterlefe Golf and River Club is the beautiful landscaping aligning the drive to the clubhouse. The course is no different. It was in exceptional condition. We played the ball down with no alibies. While the "High Season" rates are a bit steep,(they include a sleeve of Pro V1's), the course could not have been in better shape. The Tifeagle greens, a form of Bermuda which requires no winter rye overseed, were in mid-summer form, even in February, and arguably the finest greens of any course anywhere. There are a number of holes which require a significant "carry" over either water or other non-playable terrain, so it may provide more challenge than most high handicappers prefer. Play about the course moved well and we saw the ranger numerous times throughout the round. Interestingly, the sign on the ranger's cart reads "player assistance." The carts are equipped with GPS which provided us with almost all the distance and hole layout information we needed to play the correct shots. My partner and I played with two member/residents, Gary and Angelo, who were friendly and helpful, as was the staff. The layout was well designed, providing some breathtaking views, and did not resemble the typical flat Florida concept. I highly recommend this course to anyone who craves the high-end country club experience without having to actually join one.
