This scenic course is quite playable and appealing for all skill levels of golfer. The course, built on rolling terrain, was carved from a mature forest. In addition, a thick cut of rough borders all the fairways. Water hazards or marshlands come into play on many holes, so shot accuracy is vital. The signature hole is #17, a 368-yard, par 4, featuring a rock ledge and a flower garden guarding the front of the elevated green. Several discounts are available. Call for more information.

I have been golfing this course for 30 or 40 years and it has continually improved from a rough 9 hole course to a quite nice 18 hole course. The front nine is considerably more open and easier than the last nine with the exception of the ninth whole which is a narrow dogleg to the left and, in my opinion, the most interesting hole. Your tee shot must be straight and just the right length to have a good approach shot. The course has both open and tight holes plus water. It is flat to rolling.

"Good Starter Course"
For an inexpensive, well maintained course to play while you are learning the basics of golf, this course is the one to play on. No par 5's. The course has good water, and easy par 3's that are helpful when you feel the pressure of the group behind you when your beginning. For the price, the location in Fountain Valley's Mile Square Park is beautiful, and I've never felt that a person starting off in the sport would feel embarrassed to make a mistake at this course.

Chief at Sky Lodge Golf Course, The
"Bring it on!"
The Chief is perhaps the most challenging course I have played in northern Michigan. While it is a toughy, especially from the tips, it brings out a carnal instinct in me to play it again because I know that with my new knowledge I can improve my score. The course was in great shape with its bent tees, greens and fairways nicely manicured. The pro indicated that they just lowered the length of the rough, which made a great improvement. Service was also great in the shop. Leave your driver at home and have some fun.
